Matter in an Ecosystem

Matter is the substance or substances of which any physical object consists or is composed. Organisms get matter from other organisms which create matter, for example plants which create oxygen through photosynthesis. The six basic atoms necessary for life are Oxygen,Carbon,Hydrogen ,Nitrogen ,Calcium , and Phosphorus. Energy moves through an ecosystem when an organism is eaten. As you go up each trophic level, 10% of energy is transferred up. Matter on the other hand, is neither lost or gained. so it just moves up the trophic levels.
